The Potamkin Residence
When I started this project, Alan Potamkin provided me with two simple directives —
to transform his empty, barren lot into something beautiful and to make it look like the landscaping had been there for over a hundred years. The challenge with designing a landscape with specimen trees, is that you have to successfully source and move the trees into the landscape before you can move to the next step. I sourced and moved several specimens including a Baobab tree from Homestead, a Banyan Tree from Star Island, several Talipot Palms from various locations and a Ceiba Tree from Sweetwater. I have included a few historical photos of the relocation of these amazing specimens within the gallery for reference. The site was challenging due to the environmental conditions and necessary grading that needed to be performed, as well as meeting the needs of Alan's growing family. As you can see from the photographs, the results were spectactular.
"My empty property became the artist's palette for Santi's creativity
and expertise. He visualized, sourced, moved and installed breathtakingly large specimen trees. Once they were planted, Santi found the perfect next level to match, and then the next level and the next... until the final ground cover
and flowers completed his dream."
